“My time at SPACE was absolutely magical. I mean it: magic. I was given the opportunity to solely focus on creating. During the Mentorship week, I renewed my focus on writing without the pressure of producing, developing others' writing or even thinking about feeding myself. I wouldn't be feverishly writing at the rate I am now if it were not for SPACE, the staff and especially the mentorship I received during the week from Adam Bock, Mfoniso Udofia and Emily Simoness!”

- Victor Cervantes, Jr., Greenhouse Resident '17

Applications for the 2020 Greenhouse Residency will open shortly. Please check back soon for more information.

The Greenhouse Residency offers seven early-career playwrights who have not had access to the professional theatre community a weeklong residency on the farm to write and participate in professional development workshops with mentor playwrights. The 6-day residency on Ryder Farm provides a retreat-like atmosphere and one-on-one mentorship with established industry professionals. Residencies are centered around three farm fresh, communal meals daily, and residents have flexibility to structure their days to best suit their needs. The time at SPACE is used for writing, research and professional development, and each playwright is supported in ways that are in line with their particular needs. Also built into the residency are opportunities for one-on-one sessions with the program mentors in addition to seminars covering career-related topics such as applying for residency programs/development programs and submitting work to theaters.

Residents cover their travel to and from the farm. For reference, a round-trip off-peak Metro North ticket from Grand Central Terminal to Brewster Terminal is $30.00. Transportation between the Brewster Terminal and farm is provided by the SPACE team.
