“My time at SPACE was absolutely magical. I mean it: magic. I was given the opportunity to solely focus on creating. During the Mentorship week, I renewed my focus on writing without the pressure of producing, developing others' writing or even thinking about feeding myself. I wouldn't be feverishly writing at the rate I am now if it were not for SPACE, the staff and especially the mentorship I received during the week from Adam Bock, Mfoniso Udofia and Emily Simoness!”
- Victor Cervantes, Jr., Greenhouse Resident '17
GREENHOUSE RESIDENCY APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR THE 2018 SEASON
About the GREENHOUSE RESIDENCY
The Greenhouse Residency at SPACE brings together a diverse cohort of early-career playwrights for a fully-subsidized stay at Ryder Farm from October 1st-6th, 2018. The 6-day residency provides a retreat-like atmosphere and one-on-one consultations with established industry professionals. The time at SPACE is used for writing, research and professional development, and each playwright is supported in ways that are in line with their particular needs. Built into the residency are opportunities for one-on-one sessions with the program mentors in addition to several sessions covering career-related topics such as residency practices, applying for residency programs and submitting to theaters.
SPACE provides residents with housing, shared bathrooms, unique workspaces and three farm fresh meals daily prepared by SPACE’s chefs-in-residence. All meals are communal, giving opportunity for in-depth conversation and discourse.
Residents are required to cover their travel to and from the farm. For reference, a round-trip off-peak Metro North ticket from Grand Central Terminal to Brewster Terminal is $29.00. Transportation between the Brewster Terminal and farm is provided by the SPACE team.
In order to be considered for the Playwriting Mentorship Residency, applicants must be over the age of 18 and cannot have had, at the time of application, one different work professionally produced (meaning a work produced on a professional AEA contract). Additionally, preference is given to playwrights who have not attended graduate school.
Applications for the 2018 season are due January 10th, 2018 at 11:59PM EST.
