External Relations Associate

STATUS: full-time, salaried non-exempt

LOCATION: Brewster, NY & New York, NY

REPORTS TO: Director of External Relations

SPACE on Ryder Farm, a a nonprofit residency program and organic farm located on the grounds of a 224-year-old family homestead in Putnam County, New York, seeks a full time External Relations Associate to join its growing full-time staff. The External Relations Associate will line produce SPACE’s robust annual calendar of events, lead its CSA (community supported agriculture) membership program and support annual fundraising and development. Duties and responsibilities include:

SPECIAL EVENTS AND DEVELOPMENT - 60% of role

  • Under the direction of Senior Staff, line produce and serve as front of house for 10-12 public and private events throughout the year, in conjunction with the Development and Program Associate. Responsibilities include managing invite/reservation lists; coordinating talent and vendors; day-of event management and post-event documentation, thank yous and tracking.

  • Work in coordination with Executive Director and Director of External Relations to create and maintain targeted donor cultivation lists and manage individual guest/donor portfolios

  • Responsible for back-end of fundraising campaigns, including tracking invites and the sending of acknowledgments and thank you cards, for the Farm Host program, end of year appeal and crowdfunding/micro-donation campaigns.

  • Support ED and DOER in cultivating, securing and maintaining new donors and board members

  • Lead VIP tours and welcome speeches as needed during SPACE’s residency and event season (DOER of External Relations, Director of Finance and Business Development and ED will also tour guests when needed)

CSA LEADERSHIP AND FARM PROGRAMMING - 40% of role

  • With support from the DOER, serve as the administrator for SPACE’s CSA. This work includes, but is not limited to, serving as the point of contact for customers via email and phone and tracking of weekly pickups

  • Architect and manage ‘CSA Wednesdays’ which includes, but is not limited to, coordinating setup and breakdown, staffing and being the primary staff member onsite during designated pickup hours

  • With the Director of Farming and Farm Manager, run SPACE’s weekly stand at the Friday Union Square Greenmarket during the growing season, including sales and social media promotion. (Associate will not support the Greenmarket on Fridays before an event.)

  • Curate monthly CSA pickup parties, including but not limited to, coordinating artists and speakers, farm demonstrations, panel discussions and food/refreshments

  • Oversee SPACE’s Roadside Farm Stand and booth at Hayfields Market to ensure daily restocking, appropriate signage and marketing information, and support the Director of Operations and Director of Finance and Business Development in the reconciling of payments

  • Support the Executive Director, DOER and Farm Manger, as a liaison to the local Putnam/Westchester community, including local businesses and government officials

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of relevant event management/producing experience, strong organizational and time management skills and acute attention to detail. Strong interpersonal, written communication, and public speaking skills are also required. Must be proficient with Google Suite. Experience and proficiency with Kindful fundraising software (or the equivalent), Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is a plus. Preference will be given to those who are bilingual in English and Spanish.

SPACE on Ryder Farm is an ‘all-hands-on-deck’ grassroots organization. The External Relations Associate should be dexterous, entrepreneurial and able and excited to lead in a multitude of ways. This is a full-time position working out of both SPACE’s NYC and Brewster office. During SPACE’s growing and artistic season, a large majority of time will be spent in Brewster, NY. Compensation is competitive. SPACE observes a semi-monthly payroll.
