What is your name and where are you from?
Sarah Burgess. From Alexandria, VA.
What is the project you’re working on at SPACE?
I’m writing the first draft of a new play about a private equity firm. I’ve been really obsessed with the idea of private equity recently, so, yeah, I’m writing a play about it. Which seems like the right thing to do. Since I’m a playwright.
How have you been spending your time at SPACE?
I’ve mostly been sitting on the porch with my laptop, writing my play. I’ve also done a lot of talking with [SPACE’s Associate Director] Alex Barron about it. Actually, I’ve been talking to everyone about it.
What’s coming up next for you?
I’m going to Berkeley Rep in two weeks for the Ground Floor residency to develop my shark play, CAMDENSIDE. It’s got a shark in it.
If you were reincarnated as a farm animal, what would you be?
A farm animal…that doesn’t sound very pleasant. Which ones don’t get eaten? I guess it would be a really old dog. Because I wouldn’t get eaten and I wouldn’t have to do any work and people could be nostalgic about me.
