General Attendance Policies
Paid Time Off (PTO)
SPACE on Ryder Farm encourages its employees to take the time they need to relax, recharge and enjoy time outside of work. Effective, July 2023 SPACE will begin an unlimited PTO policy, which allows full-time, full year employees to request time off as they see fit instead of the traditional vacation or sick day designated days. Full time, full year employees are REQUIRED to take no less than two weeks of vacation per calendar year.
The hope of this policy is to help employees avoid exhaustion and ensure that they have some time to clear their minds from their work duties. SPACE will continue to track vacation time for all employees to ensure that:
Employees take the minimum time off
Employees don’t take time off that compromises their performance or the objectives of the organization.
As employees don’t accrue time-off SPACE will not pay out any “unused” leave upon separation from employment. Those who want to use PTO to extend paternity or maternity leave may use the mandatory two weeks of PTO towards leave, any vacation leave chosen should be discussed separately with your manager.
Employees are obliged:
to avoid abusing the policy by taking time off that negatively impacts their job and the company
Communicate and collaborate with team members to ensure everyone takes leave without disrupting operations
Plan to delegate, postpone or otherwise manage projects that may be affected by time off
Notify supervisors of time off at least two weeks in advance
PTO requests that extend past one business week will be approved on a first come, first serve basis.
All PTO requests must be submitted in writing to your direct supervisor.
Seasonal Full-Time Employees receive seven days of PTO during their time with the organization. Seasonal Part-Time Employees receive five days of PTO during their time with the organization. PTO is not paid upon separation of employment for seasonal employees.
Inclement Weather
In the event that inclement weather makes traveling to work unsafe, SPACE’s Executive Director or Chief Operations Officer will make a decision regarding employee attendance. Such decisions will be strongly informed by the National Weather Service and official local weather advisories. All employees will be notified via email of the decision made. Unless weather prevents it, employees will be expected to work remotely.
Overtime
In accordance with federal and New York state laws, non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay at the rate of 1.5 times their regular rate of pay for all hours worked over 40 in a work week.
