In 2018, SPACE and A.C.T. will mutually select two artists or artist teams (playwrights, singer-songwriters, composers, monologists, comedians, etc.) to develop projects during two distinct residencies.

First, the artists will participate in A.C.T.’s 3rd annual New Strands Festival. The artists will be in residence at A.C.T. during the week of May 13-22 and participate in a 29-Hour workshop that culminates in a free public presentation at A.C.T.’s new Strand Theater. Featuring new theatrical pieces, works in progress, readings and experimental work by playwrights, dance companies, musicians, animation artists and more, the New Strands Festival is devoted to supporting local, national and international artists in the creation and completion of original theater. The Festival enables artists to connect, and communities to participate in A.C.T.’s all-new performance venue, The Strand Theater, and to experience projects as they take shape.

Following the workshop at A.C.T., the artists will be granted a 6 day/5night Creative Residency at SPACE on Ryder Farm to develop the project further during June 18-23, June 25-30, August 27-September 1 or September 17-22. Creative Residencies provide artists the opportunity to create away from the stress and noise of everyday life and to be in the company of other individuals. Residencies are centered around three farm fresh, communal meals daily, and residents have flexibility to structure their days to best suit the needs of their project.
