Artistic Residencies and The Working Farm

Artistic Residencies: About the Program

SPACE on Ryder Farm's residency season runs annually from June through October.

Artistic residencies provide artists the opportunity to create away from the stress and noise of everyday life and to be in the company of other artists. Residencies are centered around three farm fresh meals per day. Artists have flexibility and are strongly encouraged to structure their days to best suit the needs of their project. Artistic residencies culminate in informal sharings of the work they have accomplished during their time at SPACE.

Artistic residencies are granted to individuals and groups that articulate a distinctive aesthetic and point of view. Priority in SPACE's selection process is given to applications that include detailed and specific objectives for their time in residence.

All artistic residencies are subsidized. Residents pay a minimal nightly fee to offset the cost of their stay. Additionally, residents cover their travel to and from the farm. A round-trip off-peak ticket from Grand Central Station to Brewster Station is $28.00. There are some fully-subsidized artistic residencies available upon invitation.

The Working Farm: About the Program

In addition to traditional residencies, SPACE has a resident writer's group: The Working Farm. This group gathers for a five week residency (housing, food and artistic resources provided) on Ryder Farm. The residency is divided into multiple stays. While in residence The Working Farm playwrights each work on a single play. The residency culminates in a reading of the new plays at the close of SPACE's season. Following the residency, SPACE continues its support of The Working Farm by teaming with institutions in New York City to produce readings of the new plays. If you are interested in being considered for The Working Farm in 2016, there is a place on the application to indicate your interest as well as information about additional materials required. (Please note: to be eligible for consideration, The Working Farm candidates must be availbale for the following two weeks: June 7- June 12, 2016 and September 13-18, 2016)

All applicants will be notified of their selection status via email by May 1, 2016.
