Are you finding it harder to get your career moving than you expected? Are you feeling tired and overwhelmed? Do you long for your life to look different but you’re not sure what actions to take? In the landscape of the professional life of an artist, it can be hard to navigate in what direction you want your career to move. You may find yourself frustrated seeking opportunities to use your talents. This course is geared toward artists eager to elevate their career, vision and sense of self. Ashley Gates Jansen, Emily Simoness and Therese Barbato will facilitate this three-day workshop, which will combine seminars on management of day-to-day life as an artist, broader career coaching and opportunities for centering spiritual work. This course will provide various perspectives and opportunities for insight and feedback to help budding professionals illuminate their personal artistic mission.

Ashley Gates Jansen is a theatre artist, minister and teacher. She is also a master coach trained by Martha Beck. Ashley has been counseling and coaching clients for decades and has experience working with artists/addictions/mental illness/spiritual despair and personal relationships. She is committed to helping others rediscover their inner divinity, grace, power, and wisdom. She trained in Directing at UNCSA (University of North Carolina School for the Arts) and was ordained in 2002 by the Renewal of the Spirit Institute, where she received a Masters degree in Pastoral Counseling. In 2006 and 2011, Ashley participated in Byron Katie’s School for the Work.

Emily Simoness is an entrepreneur, teacher, facilitator, motivational speaker and the founder and Executive Director of SPACE on Ryder Farm, a nonprofit artist residency program committed to supporting and developing artists and their work. As an actress, Emily worked at some of the premier theatrical venues in the nation including Williamstown Theatre Festival and The Public Theater. Additionally, she has developed and taught acting curriculum for One On One, NYU and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts; as well as serving as a consultant for Guild Hall and Bay Street Theater. Outside of her core work in the arts, Emily is a consultant for Bi-Jingo, a management development firm that specializes in communication and leadership skills for executives; she is certified in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Steps I and II. Emily holds a BFA in acting from UNCSA.

Regional credits: The Shakespeare Center of LA, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, The Huntington, Boise Contemporary Theatre and The Olney Theatre Center. As a teaching artist Therese has worked with Northwestern University’s Summer High School Institute, The Hunts Point Alliance for Children and The Chapin School. She also works as a coach and facilitator with Bi-Jingo, a management development firm that specializes in communication and leadership skills. Therese trained at Boston University, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and The Juilliard School.
